Painted Rocks

Painted Rocks turns a thriving real-world community and a simple act of kindness into a journey you can follow. People around the world were already painting rocks with encouraging messages and hiding them for strangers to discover; we created a platform to connect those people and track what happens next. Painters can photograph their creations, give them a mission, and add a short code to the back. When someone finds a rock, they enter its code and add themselves to its journey.

Over time, each rock builds a travel history, showing where it has been and the people who have helped carry it along. Whether you’re hiding your own creations, searching for rocks in the wild, or following one as it travels from place to place, Painted Rocks gives an existing community a way to connect, share, and keep the kindness moving.

Map it out

Using our Rock Locator Map you can find those gems of inspiration hidden in parks, hiking trails, rest stops, playgrounds, and other places in your community. Painted rocks are identified with special tracking pins. Tap on a pin to see an image of the rock and learn about its creator and its history.

Rock hall of fame

You can also use the map to find Painted Rock Gardens where creators have hidden dozens, sometimes even hundreds of painted rocks for others to find or exchange.
